Hello Rad Readers!
Let me tell you about this ABSOLUTE KILLER novel. I mean, talk about a RAD read! I liked this book so much, I read it one day. Yes, rad readers, you heard that right. 300 pages knocked out in less than 24 hours becuase it was just that good, and I am not really that fast of a reader, I just could not put this story down!
College papers have been casted to the side, and this book has entirely enveloped my day!
This is the sort of book that you lose sleep over, and it is sooo worth it. Wink Poppy Midnight by April Genevieve Tucholke is an entire wonder!
Wink figures, that in every story, there is a hero, a villain, and a secret. Wink is a strange girl with a strange family who happen to get a new neighbor-- Midnight. Poppy is a damaged girl with a talent for manipulation, and Midnight is the uncertain boy who gets caught in a crossfire. But still, who is the hero, who is the villain, and what is the secret? The answers certainly are not as simple as they may seem. Something has happened but nobody truly knows what. Somebody is lying but nobody knows who.
Poppy believes that if life is to be of desperation then it will not be a quiet desperation, it will be quite loud on her part. She believes she is "built for winning." Quite the complex character to say the least... However, what transpires when someone sees through Poppy's pretty manipulations to an ugly inside could be a disaster, bordering on paranormal activity, or just plain disturbing.
Wink is a dreamer, one who reads perhaps too much for her own good, trusts in trarot cards, palm readings, believes whole heartedly in fairy tales and tea leaves. She is the coolest in all regards but not everyone thinks so.
Midnight is nothing special compared to the two girls. Or is that really so?
Aside from the fantastic tale itself, the technicality of the story did not go unoticed! First of all, the author's writing is absolutely beautiful. It is almost poetic at points, and not in the pretentious way. It is so fitting of the complex characters we are seeing through.
Speaking of which-- or witch?... SORRY! No spoilers! ;)-- the three alternating perspectives was a genius way to write this story. Each character has such a strong and distinct voice. It is so smartly written, that when you get to the big twist in the end you are amazed at the bread crumb trail of clues left behind. It keeps you wondering and it keeps you from closing the book. These characters and this crazy story is impossible to put down, and will leave you thinking about who you are-- the hero, the villain, or the secret?
Completely spine chilling and rivetting, 5/5 Stars easily! Give it a read!!
