This is a combination of novellas after the events of City of Heavenly Fire, following Simon Lewis in his ascent. Honestly, I could have done without it. The ending of The Mortal Instruments series was so incredible and I still reread it sometimes because it is just so powerful and emotional, but I really was expecting a little more from these short stories. It is a whole lot of Simon feeling bad for himself, and a whole lot of the "ugh I don't fit in!" vibes which I wasn't entirely down for. I liked learning a little bit more about what happened with Clary and Jace, and I know that this is Simon's story but I still wish we spent more time focusing on them. It's like how we all know that TMI was Clary's story, but there were also subplots, and I just kinda wish that we got that out of these novellas. I just want to know what happens to Clary and Jace after ya know!! I also liked that we got to see a little about what was going on with Tessa Gray from The Infernal Devices, but ultimately I wasn't very into this story. I liked Simon in the main novels, but I think I am in the minority when I say that I didn't really like him that much. He was fun and interesting but only because the people and the plot surrounding him was fun and interesting. You put a not so interesting character in a not so interesting story and write 700 pages about it..? I don't know, not really what I'm into. All in all I gave this book 3/5 stars because there were good parts but not great but also not terrible. Ultimately I could have done without it, but I didn't so I suppose I am the one to blame..?
